The company was formed in 1951 by William Henry Catchpole who, at the time was a site manager for a national contractor in the London area.
After moving into Wayland Avenue Brighton, the company quickly became established as one of the town’s most reputable building contractors.
The main key to success was the personal attention and supervision provided by the working Managing Director.
This ensured that quality of workmanship became the company’s trademark.

In 1972, son William Charles joined the company after completing his education at college and university including acquiring membership of the
Institute of Building. This added a vital technical aspect to the company along with the desirable family continuity.

With the turnover increasing steadily, throughout this period, the company purchased badly needed larger premises at Clifton Place Brighton.
Now with three senior working executives, the turnover increased dramatically with much of the workload coming via local authorities.

In 1982 William Charles became Managing Director after the retirement of his father and quickly took the reins during a both sad and difficult
period, which saw the death of William Henry Catchpole in 1986.

In 1989 although the industry was deep into recession W.C. Catchpole decided
to take advantage of the property prices. The Clifton Place premises were sold and a large freehold office / factory unit was purchased in Portslade
Village, “Bestwood Works.” This move gave the company plenty of room for any further expansion plus the added luxury of parking facilities,
which were in short supply in central Brighton

By 1989 the firm had 74 employees and a turnover approaching £3million. Along with most other firms we were hard hit by the 1990’s recession,
which caused a major re-structuring and reduction in the number of site and office staff. With the beginning of the recovery in 1996 the firm has
continued to expand steadily and in 2001 the firm achieved “Chartered Building Company” status and in recent years has registered with
Constructionline and CHAS thus opening the route to further tender lists.

Over the years the firm has become highly experienced in most aspects of building, including new housing, commercial, industrial and major and
minor refurbishment projects and is also highly experienced in restoration and renovation of listed buildings. It is also undertaken many projects
in restoration, alteration and extension of churches, banks and prestige commercial buildings and has also completed many projects in the housing
sector from social housing up to high quality new housing at the top end of the market. The company also carries out many projects in construction,
extension and alteration of educational buildings and can undertake projects on a partnering basis.

The firm is a registered house builder with NHBC and undertakes its own development projects. W.H. Catchpole Ltd is also prepared to consider
joint development projects with experienced developers, whether in the housing, commercial or industrial sectors.

The firm has been highly profitable in recent years and has a very strong financial base. It also has an excellent reputation for quality and reliability
and anticipates a steady and profitable growth in the current decade.
